We spend around a third of our lives in bed so of course it is worth while putting some thought and effort into choosing a new bed!
Before heading to any store to buy your new bed or mattresses, measure the space you have to accomomdate your new bed - the length and width. Bed sizes are usually the same as mattress sizes, single, double, king, super king etc. Always allow extra room for the headboard and the frame of the bed and, if you are choosing a bed with drawers, make sure you have the space to open them!
When choosing a base try to decide what level of comfort you are looking for. A solid divan base with offer the firmest base while a spriung edge divan will mould to your body shape more giving you a softer base. You should always buy your divan and mattress together to ensure the two 'elements' work together.
Bed frames often have slatted bases, these will flex more than a solid divan so you shouldn't need a box-sprung mattress, static slats give a firmer support while sprung slats response more to weight and movement.
Always try your new bed and mattress before your buy, avoid buying online as you will only know if it is suitable once it is in your house and maybe your old bed has been removed! At Russell Francis we have a private, quiet, bed centre where you can relax, remove your coat, shoes etc and position yourself on the bed exactly how you would sleep at night!
