December 29, 2019

We are proud that our furniture store is so close to a ‘hot bed’ of furniture manufacturers right here in the East Midlands!

The town of Long Eaton lies between Nottingham and Derby just north of the River Trent. In the 19th Century Long Eaton was a thriving industrial town manufacturing much of the ‘Nottingham’ lace, which was sold all around the world. When, in the middle of the 20th Century, demand for lace fell sharply it was around the time that furniture and upholstery manufacturing in the town began to thrive. Since these times upholstery manufacturing has continued to thrive in Long Eaton, so much so that it has become the centre of quality upholstery manufacture in the whole UK.

This accolade of quality sofa and chair manufacturing is based on many different facts. There are in excess of 50 furniture manufacturing companies and associated industries in Long Easton, supplying some of the finest furniture retailers, design studios and hotels in the UK, as well as being exported the world, in fact furniture made in Long Eaton can be found in many British and foreign embassies.

The furniture industry in Long Eaton employs over 2,700 people adding greatly to the local and wider economy. Long Eaton’s furniture reputation for high quality and professionalism has meant that many manufacturers based throughout the UK also have offices and showrooms within the town.

Many of the sofas and chairs we stock in our Market Harborough showrooms are manufactured in Long Eaton. This is because we know we can trust the quality, reliability and we are happy to be adding to the British economy. Sofas and chair brands we stock, that are based just several miles away in Long Eaton include Duresta, David Gundry, David Gascoigne (Gascoigne Designs) and Parker Knoll.
