How often should you turn your bed mattress, if at all & what is a mattress topper?

May 17, 2018

If sleep on the same side of the bed every night and in particular if you are of a ‘big build’, you should turn your mattress (swop the bottom end for the top) and you should turn your mattress completely over at least every 6 months. This is important if you are sharing your bed with someone else, irrespective or whether you are of a similar weight or not. Any extra pressure on one side of a mattress may lead it to not wear evenly.

Some mattresses, Hypnos beds have one in their range, are ‘non-turn’ – this means you cannot turn the mattress over but you can turn it from end to end. These mattresses may have a ‘topper’ or ‘pillow top’ which comprises of several inches of additional padding sewn into the top of the mattress. Mattress topper padding may be foam, memory foam, latex, fiberfill, cotton, wool. In the case of a quality bed brand such as Hypnos it will consist of a natural fibre such as cotton or wool.

A top quality mattress topper can transform a bad mattress into a mattress that will provide a good, quality night’s sleep. So, if you do own a good quality mattress, the right topper may complement it and guarantee you have the best nights sleep possible, every night. Or, in the words of Hypnos beds, you will “Sleep like a God”!
